This is an exciting new Terrace development comprising a row of 15 townhouses.
These initial 2 homes will be on display for 12 months, but there are 5 town-houses still available to buy off the plan, Ten have already sold, and type A has sold out! Get in quick.
The townhouses are fully clad now in colorbond and galvanised iron, the next two slabs have been poured, and the third is ready for pouring.
We have been given a completion date from builders Marshall Thompson for the 30th April, after which we will be holding a grand opening celebration (on the 6th of May) and having regular open inspections. I will keep you informed of the progress.
The foundations have now been poured for the next two townhouses, lots 107 & 108 and trenches dug for lot 109.
It is a very exciting time, and they look great.
Soon I will be able to post views from the windows to the North and South, and more interior shots.
The landscaping is to be completed outside of the townhouses once construction is complete and no vehicles will need to get through.
The landscaping plan includes fruit and nut trees, and a common lawn area for gathering during the seasonal markets, or social picnics.
I am happy to give you a guided tour if you are interested in seeing for yourself.

Eco-Townhouses at Aldinga ArtsEcoVillage 20th Feb 2007

"You can never change anything by fighting the existing. To change something, build a new model and make the existing model obsolete."- Buckminster Fuller

These buildings are the beginning of a new concept of semi-rural living on a small footprint, all within an existing EcoVillage.

This is the easiest way for someone to live in the village without spending big dollars and precious time designing and building their own home. You don't even have to worry about recycling your grey water because the ecovillage treats all sewage on site and re-uses it to irrigate the community wood lot and organic farm.
These contemporary townhouses were designed by award winning architect John Maitland of Energy Architecture. They are a solar passive design, allowing the winter sun to warm them but not allowing the summer sun to enter, keeping them cool in Summer, warm in Winter. The superior insulation keeps the temperature comfortable all year round. The homes are designed with the cooling summer breezes in mind, there are strategically placed openable windows on the north and south to allow good cross ventilation. The thermal mass in the concrete floors and the internal walls will store heat in winter, to release it at night as the day cools, and draw heat from the rooms in summer, again keeping the temperature stable. This home is unlikely to require mechanical cooling, it is fitted with ceiling fans in all rooms to further aid summer comfort. However in winter if it does get a little cool in the evenings, there is town gas, so a heater can be fitted easily. The party walls feature sound-proofing which has been acoustically modelled for compliance.
The homes come with many excellent features including 11,000 litre underground rainwater storage in concrete tanks, electric-boosted roof-mounted solar hot water service, 500W photovoltaic panels, import-export meter and inverter, AAA water saving taps and fittings, paving to front and back, double off street carpark, built-in robes, and quality fittings. This is the latest photo of the new townhouses scheduled for completion at the end of March. The roof is up, superior insulation in place, colorbond/galvanised iron cladding almost complete, western red cedar windows in place, wiring done. Almost at lock up. It is very exciting to see the buildings progress. These two townhouses are the first in a row of fifteen, they are being built as display homes to allow potential purchasers to view before they buy. They will be on display for 12 months from completion.
In all, there are 3 types of townhouse to choose from:

Type D is a single storey, 1 bedroom, 1 study/bedroom, 1 bathroom, open plan design. This model is on Display. The current price is $248,908.

Type C is a two storey, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, open plan design with 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, and a mezzanine upstairs, with a timber balcony to the north. The current price is $332,728.

Type B is a two storey, 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom, open plan design with one bedroom and a large, flexible mezanine area upstairs, and a timber balcony to the north. The current price ranges from $312,128 to $317,092.
